I am a writer. I have a million thoughts and I need to capture them quickly. I start in one place…and often times end up somewhere totally different. I need to brainstorm and organize my thoughts until they all come together and tell the perfect story. And when it does, I can see it clear as day. I need an application that will help me capture, brainstorm, organize, and visualize…one that will bring my story to life.

The first step when I write is getting all of my thoughts down. I may start with a title in mind, a subject, a theme or a direction. I may start with a character, a scene, or a simple statement. From this point, the details begin to fill in. I may add characters and places.
Right now, there’s no real order. There’s just information and ideas. When my mind races with ideas, they can be lost quickly. I just need to capture a moment before it is lost.

Next, I brainstorm. I review these nodes of people, places and actions and see what else comes to mind. The characters form personalities and gather traits. The scenery gets more detailed and the location becomes clearer. The actions lead to further actions that add suspense or drama. Or laughs. Or love. From one review, many more thoughts flow. I capture them as they come. I record them as they go.

The story begins to unfold and organization is necessary. The facts and figures are rearranged as it makes sense. This isn’t just a one-time deal. Writing a masterpiece takes time and many returns. Spinscape lets me come and go as often as I need to. And each time I come back I can quickly see the status of my story. I can see it all coming together…or not. Whatever doesn’t fit, I can easily delete. I remove what is not wanted. I disconnect what doesn’t make sense. I can reconnect it where it belongs. Organization is easy to see in Spinscape. Sometimes research is necessary to really get the details right. The auto-discovery plugins allow me to search for information and images online and add them directly to my masterpiece. Sometimes I have an idea and I just need a little inspiration to get the thoughts going. I can similarly search the web right from Spinscape and locate online resources that provide just the inspiration I need.

As the thoughts are captured, expanded upon, rearranged, and researched, the big picture can then be seen. I can see the story right in front of my eyes. A quick export allows me to review my writing like the book it will become. And I can send a copy to my publisher so he knows I’m on track!
